BPC-157

BPC-157 is a fifteen-amino-acid sequence (Gly-Glu-Pro-Pro-Pro-Gly-Lys-Pro-Ala-Asp-Asp-Ala-Gly-Leu-Val) derived from a region of human gastric juice protein BPC. It was first characterized in the early 1990s by Sikiric and colleagues and has since accumulated a substantial pre-clinical research literature focused on tissue repair, vascular biology, and gastrointestinal mucosa.

Research has reported upregulation of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its receptor VEGFR2 in rodent models, along with effects on the nitric oxide synthase pathway. Affinity for the growth hormone receptor has been reported in cell culture and rodent models. Effects on tendon, ligament, and muscle fibroblast proliferation have been studied in scratch-wound and in vivo injury models. The compound demonstrates unusual stability in gastric juice in vitro — a property that has supported its characterization in oral-administration research designs.
